The blending of medicine and artistry is what attracted Dr. Hetherington to plastic surgery. Whether returning form and function to victims of accidents and cancer, or restoring and enhancing a patient's appearance to improve self-esteem, plastic surgery combines the principles of art and medicine to correct physical and emotional wounds.

Dr. Hetherington served a five-year training program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. This specialty is devoted to the treatment of disorders of the head and neck including plastic and reconstructive surgery. Following this, he underwent an additional year of fellowship training in plastic and reconstructive surgery that he completed in 1994. Since then, he has been actively involved in teaching, serving as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery with appointments at both the University of Hawaii and at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. Since entering full-time private practice in 1996, he has been actively involved teaching the first year medical students at Montana State University.

Dr. Hetherington remains actively involved in numerous professional organizations. Frequent attendance at conferences and seminars along with intense networking with other professionals keeps him well informed of the latest developments and surgical techniques. Using laser and endoscopic techniques that he has acquired have made him an expert with this advanced equipment. This has enabled him to bestow upon his patients exquisite results with minimal discomfort and recovery time.

Dr. Hetherington grew up in Montana, but his advanced medical education and military duty have afforded him the opportunity to travel in Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Western Pacific and the islands of the Indian Ocean.
